| 1525 | Prussian Dukedom was born | The beginning of the Prussia state consisted of what eventually became the province of East Prussia. |
| 1530-1816 | Protestantism gained momentum with Prussia's growth. | |
| 1618-1648 | The Religious War of Europe/The Thirty Years War | Sweden took control of the Pomerania area while the population of Europe was reduced considerably (by about one-third). |
| 1701 | Prussia becomes a kingdom | Friedrich I became the first ruler and built the Prussian Army. |
| 1740 | Friedrich II era began | Added Silesia to the kingdom. Nicknamed "The Great". |
| 1795 | More territory taken under rule | West Prussia, Posen, and other adjacent districts were added to the kingdom to form another Prussian state which became united with Brandenburg, Pommern, and Schlesien (Silesia). |
| 1805 | Napoleon moves eastward | Posen and Polish border areas lost. |
| 1815 | Congress of Vienna | Prussia gained the Rheinland and Westphalen, regained Posen, and added Sachsen (Saxony) along with other small areas of the west. |
| 1850 | Royal House consolidated | The Hohenzollern Royal House was consolidated. |
| 1867 | The Seven Years War | Alliances formed with the south German states. Adds Hannover, Schleswig-Holstein, and Hessen-Nassau. |
| 1871 | Second Empire formed | All Prussian provinces, the states of Bavaria, Baden, North Schleswig, Württemberg, Hessen-Darmstadt, Alsace-Lorraine, and the Sachsen Kingdom became the New Empire. |
| 1918 | World War I ends | The Empire lost Alsace-Lorraine. Prussia lost Posen, North Schleswig, and West Prussia. |
| 1933-1945 | The build up to and including World War II | The Third Empire regained all land lost in 1918. |
| 1949 | Division of Germany | West and East Germanys are formed. Russia is ceded the northern portion of East Prussia. |
| 1990 | Unification of Germany | East rejoins West. |
