The Los Angeles Riots.  Following the beating of one Mr. Rodney King and the announcement of the verdict in the trial of the police officers involved, riots broke out all over Los Angeles.  53 people died as a result of this riot and over a billion dollars worth of property damaged occurred as a result of the fighting and looting.
