Moses Michael Kanouse was a Civil War veteran - He served with the 5th Michigan Cavalry under General George Armstrong Custer. He served with the 1st Brigade of the 7th Michigan Cavalry. After the Civil War, he came to Nebraska and fought Sioux and Cheyenne in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. Moses Kanouse  Residence: Occupation:  Service Record:  Enlisted as a Private on 06 February 1865 at the age of 18 Enlisted in Company C, 5th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 07 February 1865. Transferred Company C, 5th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 02 June 1865 Transferred in Company F, 7th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 02 June 1865. Mustered out Company F, 7th Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 15 December 1865 in Fort Leavenworth, KS  1865 entered the service at 16 yrs of age. His application said 18 yrs  of age. Was 91 in 1937 in Omaha when he was asked by the President to  attend a memorial for civil war vets at Gettysburg 's 75th Ann. which he  did not attend. He was the 11th civil war vet living in 1937. He was with  Custer in Kamas until Custer went to S.D.. 16Yrs of age he was in charge  of the Mules. July 6 1938 . Had a farm north of Florence. He married  Catherine Carr Osborn 2 12 1908. He had 1 or 2 sisters and several  brothers who all had biblical names. He marched in review of President  Lincoln

Pearl Gertrude Kanouse.  Born:  in 1890.  Died in 1941.  Married Irving Brown.  They had three children.  Their son, Osborn, was born in 1906 and died one year later.  The two daughters were Lucille and Catherine
