| Evan Evans is the oldest known member of this family at this time.
It is known that a man by this name arrived in the area of Chester County,
Pennsylvania, under a grant from William Penn. There is a book by
author Katharine Harmon entitled, "Jonathan & Hannah Cravens Evans
of the Nolichucky River area.." I do not have a copy of
this book, but Mr. Richard Evans cites it numerous times in his writings, so
I assume this to be a significant source of information. He states
that when the Shenandoah Valley was opened for settlement, Evan moved to
Augusta County, Virginia, quite possibly in the company of the Robert
Shanklin family. It is thought that Evan's wife was related to this
family. His known children were Evan Evans, Jr., Jonathan Evans and
Elizabeth Evans. |
| Evans Evans Jr. is thought to have been born somewhere around 1750 either
in Pennsylvania or Augusta County, Virginia. He died in Greene County,
Tennessee. He was married but the wife's name is unknown. It was
thought that he was the oldest of the boys because his name is the first
mentioned in his father's will. It is thought that he served in the
Revolutionary war with his brother Jonathan and obtained several land grants
in Greene County, Tennessee about the same time as his brother
Jonathan. Evan received grants of 40 and 200 acres on the north side
of the Nolichuckey River in Greene County dated 26 December 1791 and
registered in June of the following year. H e is known to have had
several children but their names are not known at this time. |

| Hannah Evans, daughter of Jonathan Evans and Hannah Cravens was born in 1801. She
married Charles Love October 20, 1818 in Greene County, Tennessee. It is known that
Hannah lived with her children after the death of her husband and was buried in the
Meadowcreek Cemetery after her death on 4 March 1883. It is thought she was the
mother of Samuel Love who married Margaret J. Cochran, but this has not been proved. |

Will of Jonathan Evans |
|
Jonathan Evans was born in 1760 (also thought to be around 1753).
He was the second son of Evan Evans of Pennsylvania. He married Hannah Cravens
, daughter of John Cravens and Margaret Hiatt Cravens of Rockingham County,
Virginia, in June of 1779.
He died 1 November 1841 in Augusta County, West Virginia. Jonathan Evans and
Hannah Cravens had a daughter, Hannah.
Jonathan lived in Greene County Tennessee and was a successful farmer and
mentioned numerous times in regard to land transactions. His closest
neighbors were the Thomas Love family, the Michael Woods Family, the Cravens
Family and the Shields Family, whose names will be seen to criss-cross
throughout the family lines. It is known that he was granted 500 acres
of land on the Little Sinking Creek in Greene County, formerly part of
Washington County, Tennessee. In his will, he specifically mentions
his wife by name and several of his children. It is known that
children who received their inheritance during their life-time may have been
omitted from the will.
